What is Google Ads?

Google’s advertising platform for placing paid campaigns across supported properties and networks. Campaign planning should connect targeting, ad copy, landing pages and measurement.

Start with the business outcome

A useful campaign begins with a specific customer action and the audience likely to take it. For a service business, that could be an eligible enquiry from a region the team can actually serve. Campaign settings, the advertisement and the destination page should support the same offer.

Location targeting can include countries, regions and other supported areas, but the available options and interpretation need checking for the selected campaign. Google explains its location targeting controls. Choosing a location is not a substitute for reviewing where enquiries actually come from.

Example: promoting a specific business service

Consider a company advertising a website redesign service to Perth businesses. Sending the click to a page that discusses every IT service equally creates extra work for the visitor. A relevant destination can explain the redesign process, what information is needed and how to request a conversation.

Before increasing the budget, test the enquiry form and phone action, then review whether submitted leads match the intended service. If enquiries are mostly for jobs, training or unrelated support, investigate the targeting, search terms and wording together. The advertisement may be attracting attention accurately while the underlying offer remains unclear.

What to review alongside clicks

Clicks and impressions describe advertising activity, not whether the business won useful work. Review spending alongside qualified leads, the cost of handling enquiries and later sales outcomes where reliable records exist. Keep test submissions and duplicate enquiries out of the interpretation.

Do not treat paid advertising as a purchase of organic search rankings. It is a separate channel with its own settings and reporting. Make changes against a documented hypothesis, such as improving the match between an advertisement and its page, and allow a meaningful comparison period before declaring the change successful.

Common questions about google ads

No. A compelling advertisement can attract clicks that do not become suitable enquiries or sales. Compare click activity with lead quality and the business outcome.

Not necessarily. Services with different audiences or decision questions often benefit from more specific destinations. Group them only when a shared page genuinely answers the visitor’s needs.

  • Landing page — A page designed around a particular audience, campaign or action. Effective landing pages connect the visitor’s expectation with clear information and a relevant next step.
  • Conversion tracking — A measurement setup that records meaningful customer actions and their source where permitted, helping connect marketing activity to enquiries or sales.
  • Lead generation — Creating and converting demand into prospective customer enquiries. Success depends on lead quality and follow-up as well as the number of enquiries.
  • Click-through rate — The proportion of impressions that lead to clicks, usually expressed as a percentage. It needs to be interpreted alongside the query, position, audience and resulting enquiries.

Paid campaigns and organic search can share landing pages and measurement, while their traffic and costs should remain distinguishable.
