Page Rank Factors

E-E-A-T Content Signals

Understand E-E-A-T, show relevant evidence and authorship, and avoid treating Google’s quality framework as a single measurable ranking factor.

Four silver columns support a charcoal block.

E-E-A-T stands for experience, expertise, authoritativeness and trustworthiness. It is a framework used in Google’s quality evaluation guidance, useful for reviewing whether content deserves a reader’s confidence. It is not a score publishers can directly set.

Understand what the framework can establish

Google explains the role of quality raters in evaluating its systems; individual ratings do not directly determine page rankings. E-E-A-T should therefore guide editorial judgment rather than become a checklist of badges. Ask whether the person or organisation is suited to the topic, whether the explanation is supported and whether the reader can understand who is responsible. The evidence needed varies with the consequences of an error.

Demonstrate relevant experience honestly

Use real, authorised examples of processes, tests or observations where they help explain the subject. State what was observed and what remains uncertain. A personal product experience is different from professional expertise in safety or engineering. Do not invent credentials, customer results or reviews to make a page appear authoritative. A specific limitation can be more trustworthy than a broad claim that the author knows everything about the topic.

Make accountability easy to inspect

Provide appropriate authorship, editorial responsibility and business information. Link material claims to relevant evidence and correct errors promptly. Keep structured data consistent with the visible page rather than adding unsupported titles or affiliations. SEO content review can examine these elements alongside the search intent, but it cannot manufacture reputation by filling schema fields or adding an author box.

Match evidence to the stakes

Identify which claims could materially affect a reader’s safety, finances or business operations. Review those claims with appropriately qualified people and credible evidence rather than relying on a general author biography. A first-hand account may illustrate an experience while remaining insufficient for broader advice. State that distinction clearly. The practical aim is responsible information with inspectable support, not accumulating more badges or references than a competing page.

A technical guide example

Imagine a Perth IT provider explaining backup restoration. It could identify the reviewer responsible for the guidance, describe a hypothetical restoration test and clearly label the example. If the provider shares an actual test, it should explain the environment and publish only authorised details. Readers can then assess the relevance of the evidence. That is more useful than asserting a perfect trust score. Evaluate enquiries and feedback without claiming that an E-E-A-T edit mechanically increases rankings.

Common questions

No. It is a quality framework, not one directly adjustable ranking factor or a public Google score.

No. A bio helps explain responsibility, but the claims, evidence and author’s relevant competence still need to withstand scrutiny.

Terms in this guide

  • Structured data — Machine-readable information describing a page’s content in a supported format, such as JSON-LD. It should use accurate, relevant properties.
  • Search intent — The task or question behind a search, such as learning a concept, comparing options or finding a provider. Content should answer the intended need.
  • Conversion — A valuable action defined for measurement, such as a qualified enquiry, booked appointment or completed purchase. A page view is not automatically a business outcome.
