User Experience Rank Factors

Trust Signals

Review trust signals through accurate identity, verified claims and clear service scope. Help customers assess the business without relying on decorative badges.

Trust signals are verifiable details that help someone assess a business and its claims. They can include clear identity, relevant experience, accurate contact information and transparent explanations of scope. Trust is earned through the substance and consistency of these details, not through decorative badges or unsupported statements.

Distinguish evidence from a ranking formula

Google’s helpful-content guidance encourages clarity about who created content and the basis for trusting it. That does not create a universal score for the number of badges, biographies or testimonials on a page. Useful evidence helps people evaluate whether the service fits their needs. A secure connection, for example, protects transport but does not prove expertise. Keep claims proportional to what can be verified, and avoid presenting a generic list of trust elements as a guaranteed path to higher positions.

Audit claims and supporting records

Review service pages for qualifications, affiliations, experience statements, guarantees and customer quotations. Identify the supporting record and owner for each material claim. Check that names, phone details and service areas agree across the website and relevant business listings. Make the scope, process and contact route understandable. Remove expired accreditations and unexplained logos unless their use and meaning are established. Test whether a visitor can tell who will provide the work and what evidence supports the important statements, without having to infer credibility from visual polish alone.

Check whether qualifications and affiliations apply to the business or to a named individual. The presentation should preserve that distinction so visitors do not infer broader accreditation than the supporting evidence establishes.

Use specific evidence where it exists

Imagine a Perth consultancy claims broad expertise but provides no explanation of its approach. A clear description of how an audit is scoped, what the deliverable contains and how recommendations are prioritised can make the service easier to evaluate. Verified qualifications or authorised project examples can add context where available. If customer evidence is not yet available, do not invent names or outcomes. Transparent limitations and an accessible phone or form route can support informed enquiries while the business develops a stronger documented evidence base.

An SEO audit can flag unsupported claims and gaps in service information.

Common questions

No. A badge only helps if it represents something real and relevant. Search performance cannot be reduced to a count of decorative credibility elements.

Use accurate identity, a clear process, transparent service scope and verifiable experience where available. Avoid implying customer results that have not occurred.

Terms in this guide

  • HTTPS — HTTP delivered over an encrypted TLS connection. It protects information in transit and authenticates the connection to the server; it does not by itself make an application secure.
  • NAP consistency — Consistency of a business’s name, address and phone number across relevant listings and its website. Accurate details help customers identify and contact the right business.
  • Conversion — A valuable action defined for measurement, such as a qualified enquiry, booked appointment or completed purchase. A page view is not automatically a business outcome.
  • Brand identity — The visual and verbal elements that make a business recognisable, including its name, logo, colours, typography and communication style.
